2. What’s covered in my monthly rent payment?
Know what you’re paying for each month. Ask about which utilities and features are included in your rent cost. Sometimes the landlord will pay for hydro and electricity, and sometimes the tenant pays for it. You never know until you ask.
3. How much can I spruce the place up?
It’s important to understand that you’re renting, and someone else may be moving in a year later. Some landlords prohibit any major changes to the space to keep it neutral. You want that security deposit back, so make sure you know what’s allowed and what’s not.

Sometimes, life happens. It’s useful to know what might happen if you need to break your lease. Some landlords are nicer than others, so this can result in something pretty simple, to something involving lawyers.
